After considering the expected conventions of a magazine front cover, I decided to change the main image for my first edition as the photo intially chosen was against that of the generic conventions. I made sure to include direct address and mid shots for my images in order to more accurately reflect what a pop magazine would look like and to conform to the conventions expected of such a front cover. In order to still link these images to the main coverline to draw anchorage, I used the setting of the doorway into a bedroom. This makes the image feel authentic and homely, while still linking to the idea of the artist as producing from his bedroom. The position of him within the doorway makes it feel as if you are being invited into this personal space which fits with the theme of the magazine as a deeper dive into popular artists. Moreover, the posture within these images is relaxed and casual which makes the image appear more natural and comfortable.
As an alternative idea, I used a mid shot with a plain background, much like a studio shot which is often used within pop music magazine front covers. This adds a sense of professionalism but also allows for a definite focus onto the artist presented rather than anything else within the background.
